John C. Campbell, 71, of Meadowview, VA went to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, TN following a sudden stroke. He was born in Damascus, VA on December 27, 1947, a son of the late James C. and Sadie E. Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Finley. He was a life long resident of Washington County, VA and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a retired rural letter carrier from the U.S. Postal Service and was a deacon at Abingdon Church of Christ. John loved restoring classic cars and meeting with the 47 Car Club in Damascus. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Roxie Lowe Campbell; one daughter, Denise Campbell Downey and her husband, Mike; two sons, John C. Campbell, Jr. and his wife, Michelle, and Jason E. Campbell and his wife, Khala; six grandchildren, Aaron Deel, Caitlyn Deel, Caleb Campbell, Emily Campbell, Ryan Campbell, and Ryleigh Campbell; two sisters, Joyce Crowder and her husband, Kenneth, and Betty Brown; nephews, Rick Finley, Wayne Crowder, and Jeff Crowder. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 PM Tuesday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Mr. Bill Haywood, minister, officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, VA. Honorary pallbearers will be Loyd Alexander, Junior Turnmire, Bob Osborne, Lonnie Morley, Mike Lowe, and Rick Finley. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Abingdon Church of Christ, P.O. Box 604, Abingdon, VA 24212.
