Jean Cole, 81, of Damascus, VA passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Abingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center in Abingdon, VA. She was born in McVeigh, KY, a daughter of the late James Clarence Garrett and is survived by her mother, Shirley "Dot" Reid Garrett. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert "Bob" Cole. She had lived in Damascus, VA most of her life and was a retired supervisor from McBee Systems. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Jean enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Cole of Damascus, VA, and Mike Cole and his wife, Jennifer, of Damascus, VA; two sisters, Becky Copenhaver and her husband, Bob, of Meadowview, VA, and Annette Dorton and her husband, Jim, of Kingsport, TN; six grandchildren, Adam Cole and his wife, Brittany, Cody Cole and his wife, Brittany, Laurel Maynard and her husband, Ryan, Katie DiPietro and her husband, Phil, Rachel Cole, and Cory Cornett; six great grandchildren, Cole DiPietro, Kinzley DiPietro, Sophia Cole, David Cole, Prai Maynard, and Maverick Cole; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to Vickie Farmer, Donnie Foster, Sr., and Robin Rush for all the love and care shown to Jean. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:45 PM Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM Saturday in the Riverview Chapel with Pastor Greg Alderman officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, VA. Pallbearers will be Phil DiPietro, Cody Cole, Adam Cole, Cory Cornett, Ryan Maynard, Bill Rush, David Widener, and Donnie Foster, Sr. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
