Virginia Rutledge "Miss Ginny" Adams, 93, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN. She was born in Damascus, VA on July 4, 1925 and was one of eleven children born to Bill and Pearl Rutledge. She was the widow of Ben Adams, Jr. to whom she was married for 58 years. Virginia is survived by two sons, Ben Phillip "Benny" Adams and his wife, Fallon, of Damascus, VA and David Andrew Adams of Lynchburg, VA; five grandchildren, Joseph Bryan McNeil and his wife, Alise, Madison Lee Grace Adams, Charlotte Rose Adams, Benjamin Jack Adams, and Cooper Curran Adams; one great grandson, Grayson McNeil; one sister, Joan Dean of Damascus, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Virginia had several jobs and loved most of them. She was very proud of her efforts in WW II as a detonator expeditor in Elkton, MD, making bombs for the Army Air Corp. She was the manager of credits and collections for G.E. Corporation in Lynchburg, VA for 30 years. She was a past president of the Damascus Life Saving Crew Auxiliary and a member of the Damascus Senior Citizens. She was a strong member of the community and loved Damascus. She always saw great potential in the small town. Virginia was most happy with her last job as Inn Keeper along with her helper, Joe Childress, at the Lazy Fox Inn in Damascus, VA. She loved her guests and meeting new people. Her hosting skills and breakfast are legendary. She was an 85 year member of Damascus Presbyterian Church. She lived a Christian lifestyle and instilled those values in her children. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Garrett Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM Sunday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Rev. Suzanne Martin officiating.
