Vesper Elizabeth Hillard, 88, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem, Virginia. She was born in Washington County, Virginia; daughter of the late Robert S. and Virgie Bowman Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Hillard; two sisters, Voda Thomas and Virginia Fritz; four brothers, Harold Thomas, Andy Thomas, John Thomas, and Bob Thomas. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia. She was a member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church, Alvarado community, Abingdon, Virginia. She is survived by two sons, Dwight Hillard and wife, Dot of Troutville, Virginia, and Keith Hillard and wife, Mary of Goosecreek, South Carolina; three grandsons, Jason, Shay, and David; two great-granddaughters, Victoria and Katherine; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Vesper Elizabeth Hillard will be conducted at 12:00 pm Friday, December 12, 2014 in Roberts Chapel Baptist Church, Alvarado Community, Abingdon, Virginia with Rev. John Surber officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Alvarado Community, Abingdon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jason Hillard, Shay Hillard, David Hillard, C.J. Tate, Carl Sweet, and David Sweet. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dean Smith, Gilbert Roberts, Tommy Roberts, Gene Sweet, Carl Fritz, and Paul Johnson. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Friday, December 12, 2014 in Roberts Chapel Baptist Church, Alvarado Community, Abingdon, Virginia.
