Thelma Pauline Davis Umberger Akers

Thelma Pauline Davis Umberger Akers, 83, of Chilhowie, Virginia passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Bland County, VA and was a daughter of the late Raymond and Thelma Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Rudolph Umberger; her second husband, Robert L. Akers; a son-in-law, Johnny Ray Hoback; two sisters, Rosaline Sutherland and Louise Parks; three brothers, Clyde Davis, Elwood Davis, and Daniel Davis. She had lived in Wythe County and Washington County, VA for several years prior to moving to Smyth County, VA in 1999. She retired from American Furniture Company in Chilhowie, VA and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Glade Spring, VA. She is survived by five daughters, Phyllis Umberger Naff and her husband, Edwin, of Chilhowie, VA, Linda Umberger Hoback of Wytheville, VA, Kaye Umberger Sharitz and her husband, Jimmy, of Wytheville, VA, Priscilla Akers Poston and her husband, Ronald, of Abingdon, VA, and Zaria Akers Parks and her husband, Steve, of Glade Spring, VA; one son, Raymond R. Umberger and his wife, Connie, of Wytheville, VA; one sister, Marie Heuring and her husband, LaMont, of Disputanta, VA; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Monday, December 5, 2016, in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor Donn Sunshine officiating.
