Thelma Gilland Richardson

January 4, 1935 - January 26, 2012

Thelma L. Gilland Richardson, age 77, of Knoxville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at her residence. Thelma was born in Damascus, Virginia on January 4, 1935 to the late Tom and Jenny Lou Gilland. After many years of working, Thelma retired to become a homemaker. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, camping, and fishing. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her sister, Sue Gilland Jenkins, her brother, Delmar Gilland, and a daughter, Vivian Richardson.  She is survived by a very special friend, who was also her husband for thirty-nine years, Ralph Richardson of Knoxville; four sons, Thomas Richardson and Charles Richardson of Knoxville, Arthur Richardson, Jr. of Roanoke, and Darrell Gilland of Greensboro; two daughters, Heather Ravo of Knoxville and Robin Marsh of Blountville; numerous special grandchildren and special great grandchildren; one brother, James Gilland of Damascus; and one sister, Peggy Barry of Bristol.  The funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 P.M. Sunday, January 29, 2012 in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home in Damascus, Virginia with Bro. Wayne Blevins officiating. Her sons and daughters may speak of memories prior to closing of the service. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 3:15 P.M.
