Slemp Baumgardner

Baumgardner, age 90, of Whitaker Hollow Road, Abingdon, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia and was a son of the late A. C. Baumgardner and Annie Harris Baumgardner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Ruth Baumgardner, two daughters, Ruby Ann Doss and Lois Baumgardner, a son, Calvin Wayne Baumgardner, three grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers. He was a farmer and attended Greenwood Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Janice Jean Nunnally and husband, Raleigh, of Petersburg, Virginia and Joyce B. Sacra and husband, Thomas, of Rapidan, Virginia; two sons, Henry Slemp Baumgardner, Jr. and wife, Edith, and Bobby Alfred Baumgardner and wife, Darlene, all of Bristol, Tennessee; two sisters, Marie White, of Bristol, Tennessee and Evelyn Jones, of Abingdon, Virginia; a special granddaughter, Patti Castle, of Moyock, North Carolina; a special sister-in-law, Shirley Sweet, of Abingdon, Virginia; eighteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 25, 2009 in the Greenwood Baptist Church with Pastor Raleigh Nunnally, Pastor Steve Castle, and Pastor David Neitch officiating. The committal service and interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Alvarado, Virginia. Pallbearers will be David Baumgardner, Wayne Jones, Noah Wright, Jackie Stewart, Mark Bamgardner, and Graham Sweet. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Doss, Robert Doss, Ralph Doss, Mike Doss, Junior Doss, Ricky Doss, Kenny Baumgardner, and Nathaniel Sacra. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.
