Rodger Solomon Lewis

March 11, 1930 - April 22, 2022

Rodger Solomon Lewis, 92, entered into the loving arms of Jesus during the late evening hours of Friday (April 22, 2022) at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Rodger was born on March 11, 1930 in Taylors Valley, VA to the late Solomon Elsberry & Mary Lavina (Gentry) Lewis. Rodger was born and raised in the Taylors Valley Community. He unselfishly served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean Era. Rodger attended Emory and Henry College and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. He attended Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren. Rodger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend; he will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, Rodger was preceded in death by his five brothers, Arthur Francis Lewis, Paul Samuel Lewis, James Daniel Lewis, William Preston Lewis, and Edwin Jackson Lewis; and six sisters, Verna Ellen Lewis, Ora Lena Hoke, Effie Lucille Price, Ruth Esther Warden, Mildred Elizabeth Blevins, and Florence Selma Rowan. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Martha Jean (Adams) Lewis; three daughters, Kimberly Hope Lewis, Pamela Denise Lewis, and Leigh Ann Zollo & husband Lyle; six grandchildren, Bethany Zollo, Jesse Hoskins, Kyra Hoskins-Power, Nicholas Zollo, Alyssa Zollo, and Brennon Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Adlee Thomas and Elijah Power; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. The family will greet guests and share memories on Wednesday (April 27, 2022) from 1 to 2 p.m. at Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren (37151 Chestnut Mountain Road Damascus, VA 24236). A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2 p.m. with family and friends sharing memories. Rodger will be laid to rest following the Celebration of Life Service at Jackson Lewis Cemetery (37310 Waccamaw Lane Damascus, VA 24236). Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. The family would like to extend a special thank you to April Hall of MSA Hospice of Abingdon, VA. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren (37151 Chestnut Mountain Road Damascus, VA 24236).
