Robert Cornett Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Robert R. Cornett, age 85, of Damascus, Virginia, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tennessee. He was a life long resident of Washington County, Virginia and was a son of the late Grant and Rebecca Cornett. He was retired from Sprint and was a member of the Laurel Community Church in Damascus. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Cornett; one son, Charles “Randy” Cornett and his wife, Judy, of Damascus, Virginia; two sisters, Hazel Cullop and Virginia Smith, both of Damascus, Virginia; two grandchildren, Dr. Charles “Chuck” Cornett and his wife, Cathy, of Platteville, Wisconsin and Beth Clark and her husband, Chris, of Roanoke, Virginia; three great grandchildren, Cora, Roy, and Ellen Cornett; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor Harry Layell, Pastor April Milligan, and Dr. Charles Cornett officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Terry Reed, Michael Reed, Jerry Cornett, Ronnie Cullop, Lonnie Lewis, Jim Lewis, Larry Brown, and David Ratliff. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Widener, Jim Osborne, Bill Neely, David Patrick, Eugene Neely, and Bill Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Laurel Community Church, c/o Judy Cornett, 22129 Fisher Hollow Road, Damascus, VA 24236. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:45 P.M. Tuesday prior to the funeral service at Garrett Funeral Home.
