Robert Bob Milhorne Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

(To view Video Tribute you need a Broadband - DSL or Cable - connection) Robert Charles "Bob" Milhorne, age 86, of Damascus, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Virginia. He was a life long resident of Washington County, Virginia, and was a son of the late James and Bessie Stroup Milhorne and after the death of his mother at an early age, he was raised by the late Homer and Mary Milhorne. He entered the U.S. Army serving in Panama at the age of sixteen and later joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he received ribbons for his time in service during the American Theatre, the European-African, and Asiatic-Pacific. Mr. Milhorne retired from the Brunswick Corporation after thirty-five years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Milhorne; three daughters, Brenda Deel, of Bristol, Tennessee, Virginia Lowe and her husband, Ernie, of Abingdon, Virginia, and Robin Purkey and her husband, Frank, of Bristol, Tennessee; three sons, Joe Milhorne and his wife, Charlene, of Abingdon, Virginia, Mike Milhorne and his wife, Wylene, of Damascus, Virginia, and Mack Milhorne and Brenda, of Abingdon, Virginia; four sisters, Marie Blevins and Alma Sprinkle, both of Damascus, Virginia, Faye Hopkins, of Abingdon, Virginia, and Melba Blevins, of Columbia, South Carolina; one brother, Bill Milhorne, of Damascus, Virginia; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 27, 2006, in the Damascus Church of Christ with Mr. Bill Reece and Mr. Anthony Milhorne, ministers officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia, with the Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Allen Rouse, Cody Rouse, Craig Milhorne, Anthony Milhorne, Josh Milhorne, Mark Lowe, Ronnie Deel, Joe Deel, Monty Deel, Ronald Deel, Ernie Lowe, Michael Milhorne, Todd Milhorne, Robbie Milhorne, and Jedd Milhorne. Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Finley, Harold Wilcox, and Harold Stout. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Cancer Outreach Foundation, 104 Abingdon Place, Abingdon, VA 24211. The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 P.M.
