Ralph M. Barr Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ralph M. Barr, Jr., age 76, of Damascus, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at his residence while surrounded by his loving family. He was a life long resident of Washington County, Virginia and a son of the late Ralph and Mary Barr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired employee from Columbus McKinnon. After his retirement, he worked for the Washington County School System for four years. Mr. Barr was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Wright Barr; one son, Steven Barr; two sisters, Mattie Gray Barr and Vivian Lucille Neely; and one nephew, Scottie Asher. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Seon Barr of Glade Spring, Virginia; two grandchildren, Allie Barr and Tiffany Barr of Glade Spring, Virginia; four sisters, Ellen Jo Wright and her husband, Jay, and Eula Jean Sheets and her husband, Cotton, all of Glade Spring, Virginia, Linda Gambel of San Antonio, Texas, and Sharon Burke and her husband, Jack, of Meadowview, Virginia; three brothers, David Barr and his wife, Judy, of Damascus, Virginia, Lawrence Barr and Randy Barr, both of Glade Spring, Virginia; a loving and dear sister-in-law, Carol Barr of Glade Spring, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Saturday, November 24, 2012 in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Rev. Warren Wilson officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nephews and his fellow employees at Columbus McKinnon. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Damascus Volunteer Rescue Squad, Bristol Home Health, Abingdon Home Health, Hometown Hospice including his nurses, Pam Smith and Teresa Pennington, and his caregivers, Mary Thomas and Violet Morefield. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:45 P.M. Saturday prior to the funeral service at Garrett Funeral Home.
