Paul Cornett Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Paul F. Cornett, age 92, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tennessee. A native of Washington County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Samuel and Amanda Vannoy Cornett. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Cornett, and by his brother, Henry Cornett. Paul was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army under General George Patton in Italy and Africa where he earned two bronze stars and a purple heart. He was a member of Laurel Community Church. He is survived by three daughters, Lois Faris and husband Hunter, of Damascus, Virginia, Janet Tupay, of Hampton, Tennessee, and Patty Jones and husband Bob, of Bristol, Tennessee; two sons, Rex Cornett and wife Joyce, of Lebanon, Virginia, and Hal Cornett and wife Donna, of Bluff City, Tennessee; five sisters, Margaret McCrady, Lucille Evans, Martha Bellamy, Grace Wingard, and Linna Sweet; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Garrett Funeral Home, with Rev. Leonard Smith officiating. The committal service and interment will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 1, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia with military graveside rites conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. to 7:15 P.M. Thursday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
