Norma B. Anderson, 98, of Damascus, VA passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 at her residence. She was born on January 8, 1921, a daughter of the late Harmon and Mary Ballard of Mt. Gilead, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Anderson; a grandson, William Edward Anderson; three sisters, Vada Martin, Carolyn Lane, and Lorette Ballard; one brother, Harold Ballard. She was a resident of Damascus, VA for most of her life. She had worked at the American Legion Pool for several years and had helped with the Cub Scouts and was in a Bridge Club. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Damascus United Methodist Church. Norma is survived by a son, Guy Edward "Ed" Anderson Jr. and his wife, Patricia Lewis, of Lynchburg, VA; her granddaughter, Jennifer Lorrette "Lori" Anderson Fields; a great granddaughter, Loren Nicole Fields; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of Mrs. Anderson's caregivers for all their faithful support over the years. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Damascus United Methodist Church in Damascus, VA. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM Saturday at the church with Pastor Creighton Smith and Pastor Martha Roudebush officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, VA. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Norma was a very sweet and respected person. We had so many laughs and good times together. She would love going outside and sitting on the deck. We spent alot of time sharing stories about her younger life when she worked at the telephone company and then at the pool. She really loved both of those jobs. She really loved her family too. She would talk about her brother and sisters and how she spoiled her brother. She adored her great granddaughter Lauten and her granddaughter Lori. She would always make sure that a card was sent for their Birthdays. She also talk alot about Ed and Pat and how much she loved them too and couldn't hardly wait for their visits. I sure will miss that beautiful smile she always had to greet you with and her soft spoken voice...I will see you again one day and we can share more stories.

My Condolences , Eddie and Family on the passing of your dear and loving Mother whom you attended to so calmly and lovingly especially in the last days of her earthly life . Your Grace and poise during her illness was a wonderful inspiration and your Mother shared thoughts of the same sentiments with me as I visited her from time to time in the home here in Damascus . Two things stand like Stone : Kindness in another's troubles , Courage in your own . Your Mother was a kind and sweet person and an important pillar in the town and community where she lived and spent many days helping so many of us as children when " scrapes and cuts " came to us she would give a smile and make sure we would be fine with her care and confidence she always showed to us in the days while spending Summers of fun at the pool . Take Solace in knowing your Mother was a Christian and has a promise of a Heavenly home where Sickness and Pain will be no more . My Thoughts and Prayers are with you and your family now and in days going forward , may you find Peace in your heart and Soul in knowing as a Son you did all things to help and make life so much better in the Living Years .
