Michael A. "Mike" Bishop, age 50, of Damascus, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at his residence. He was a life long resident of the Damascus, Virginia area and was a son of James A. Bishop of Damascus, Virginia and the late Barbara Wilson Bishop. Mike was a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Architecture and was a VOL for life. He was also a graduate of William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law. He practiced law for 24 years throughout Southwest Virginia with offices in Bristol and Abingdon. Mike's happiest moments were spending time with his wife and coaching his kids in tee-ball, soccer, football, Destination Imagination, and acting and singing onstage at Theatre Bristol with Ashton and Emma, where he also served on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church, where he has served as chairman of the Administrative Council for the past ten years and was a member of the choir. In addition to his father, Mike is also survived by his loving wife, Karrie Elizabeth Bishop; six children, Brady Giles Bishop and Emma Grace Bishop both of the home, Amanda Shea Bishop and Ashton Brooke Bishop both of Abingdon, Virginia, Hannah Elizabeth DeArmond of Dallas, Texas, and Dillon Thomas DeArmond of Charlotte, North Carolina; two brothers, Andy Bishop and his wife, Judy, of Allison Park, Pennsylvania and Emory Bishop of Damascus, Virginia; two nieces, Erin Bishop and Kristen Bishop both of Allison Park, Pennsylvania. Mike would also like to recognize the following special friends who had a meaningful impact on his life: William Joseph Lamie, Robert V. Ward, Larry B. Kirksey, Stuart Wright IV, Steve Baskett, Mark Hutton, Dan Gray, Skip Musser, The Damascus United Methodist Church Choir, and all casts and crews in his performances at Theatre Bristol. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:45 PM Friday, July 8, 2016 at Damascus United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 PM Friday at the church with Pastor Jim Denton officiating.
