Martha Frances “Tick” Prater Roark, age 73, of Damascus, Virginia, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia after a lengthy illness. She was a life long resident of Washington County, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Simpson and Thelma Prater of Damascus, Virginia and was a member of Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert P. Roark; three sons, Robert P. Roark, Jr. and his wife, Patty, of Damascus, Virginia, Raymond Michael “Mike” Roark and his wife, Crystal, of New Market, Alabama, and William M. “Ken” Roark and his wife, Trina, of Beaverdam, Virginia; one sister, Barbara Prater McNeil of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Terence Clayton “Terry” Prater and his wife, Jean, of Damascus, Virginia, William S. “Dub” Prater of Bristol, Tennessee, and Michael Randolph “Randy” Prater and his wife, Patty, of Abingdon, Virginia; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Monday, December 28, 2009 in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor Harry Layell officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Robbie Roark, Lee Roark, Jeff Roark, Brandon, Doss, Lee Crabtree, Eddie Evans, Tim Smith, Terry Prater Jr., and Shawn Conklin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:45 P.M.
