John Roe, age 83, beloved husband, wonderful father, and incredible grandfather went to his home on high on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. He now watches over his wife of 57 years, Shirley Irene Roe, his daughter, Margie (Fred) Bowling, a son Ralph Mitchell Roe, and his grandson, Chopper Bowling, as he sits on the right hand of God telling him all about the big ones that got away. John was a retired farmer, army veteran, Sunday school teacher, and friend to all. He loved fishing, hunting, and reading. He was a collector of many things throughout his life and if you ever needed something he was the first to offer what he had. He was the son of the late Jim and Annie Roe and a brother to five sisters and four brothers, three awaiting his arrival in heaven. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 2, 2012 at the graveside at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia with Mr. Wayne Baker, minister officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. to 1:45 P.M. Monday prior to the graveside service at Garrett Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Fred Bowling, Chopper Bowling, Jack Conlon, Dave Coulthard, Junior Turnmire, Johnny Campbell, and Bill Winters. The family, minister, pallbearers, and friends will all meet at 1:45 P.M. Monday at Garrett Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery for the graveside service. Online condolences may be sent to the family and may be viewed by visiting www.garrettfuneralhome.com. Mr. Roe and his family are in the care of Garrett Funeral Home, 203 N. Shady Ave., Damascus, VA 24236, 276-475-3631.Read Obituary
