(Must have Broadband Connection to view Video Tribute) John F. Copenhaver, Jr., age 81, of Glade Spring, Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007 at his residence. He was a life long resident of Washington County, Virginia, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He made his livelihood as a dairy farmer and was a life long active member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. He served fifty years on the Holston River Soil and Water Conservation board and was a director of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. He served on both local and state boards for Southern States Co-op and also served on various other farm and civic organizations. He was caretaker of Mount Olivet Cemetery for many years. Mr. Copenhaver was an avid golfer and former member of Holston Hills Country Club in Marion, Virginia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Copenhaver Buckley. He is survived by his wife, Rosella H. Copenhaver; two daughters, Betty Lou Copenhaver Morris and her husband, Harry, of Kingsport, Tennessee and Jonna Rose Copenhaver and her husband, Tim Eckard, of High Point, North Carolina; one sister, Shirley Strother of Blacksburg, Virginia; two grandchildren, Benjamin Scott Morris and Sarah Michelle Morris; an aunt, Kathleen S. Love of Creston, North Carolina; two nieces, Mary Jane Buckley Robinson and Helen Farrier Renquist; and two nephews, William G. Buckley, Jr. and Robert Farrier. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 19, 2007 in the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Minnick officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Eckard, Harry Morris, Ben Morris, Billy Buckley, Mike Gentry, David Fleenor, and Fred Overbay. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church and the various farm organizations in which he was associated. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church or the Mount Olivet Cemetery, c/o Fred Overbay, 15352 Prices Bridge Road, Glade Spring, VA 24340. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Garrett Funeral Home.
