Jessie C. Riffey Blevins, 86, of Konnarock, VA passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, VA. She was born in Whitetop, VA on August 15, 1931, a daughter of the late William G. "Bill" Riffey and Bessie L. Riffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, T. Lawrence Blevins; and one son, Gary Blevins and his wife, Sue; and two sisters and five brothers. She had lived most of her life in Washington County, VA and was a retired seamstress from Mr. Casuals in Troutdale, VA. Jessie was very active in the Konnarock Community Association. She loved gardening, traveling, listening to gospel music, reading her bible, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock, VA. Jessie is survived by her daughter, Greta Powers and her husband, Kelly, of Meadowview, VA; two sisters, Eleanor Baer and her husband, John, of Chester Springs, PA and Carol Gillenwater of Bristol, VA; five grandchildren, Brandy Trent and her husband, Aaron, Kelly Powers, Jr. and his wife, Megan, Stacey Boehme and her husband, Tim, Karla Blevins and her husband, Andy, and Tyler Blevins; six great grandchildren, Ethan, Lucas, Nick, Courtney, Nate, and Kendall; and expecting two additional great grandchildren on the way, Addison and Camden; a brother-in-law, Bob Deel; a sister-in-law, Shirley Riffey; several nieces and nephews; and her special baby Robert that brought her a lot of companionship and joy to her life. The family would like to express a special thank you to Thelma Harrington, Carolyn Price, Janice Strickland, Vianna Blevins, all the staff at Valley Health Care Center, and the Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia for all the love and care shown to Jessie. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:45 PM Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM Sunday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Lundy and Pastor Robert Blevins officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11:00 AM Monday, January 15, 2018 at Azen Cemetery in Konnarock, VA. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons, and Ben Hayes, Joe Blevins, and Grayson Blevins. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2020 Meadowview Parkway, Suite 100, Kingsport, TN 37660.
