(Must have Broadband Connection to view Video Tribute) Fred Carroll Mabe, age 70, of Taylor Valley, Virginia passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.  He was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee, and was the son of the late Rufus and Bertha Mabe.  He had lived in Taylor Valley, Virginia for the past forty-four years.  Mr. Mabe retired from Columbus McKinnon Corporation in Damascus and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America.  He had attended the Taylor Valley Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Jean Mabe; one daughter, Sheila Thomas of Abingdon, Virginia; one granddaughter, Amanda Thomas of Abingdon, Virginia; four sisters, Phyllis Mast and her husband, Carl, of Mountain City, Tennessee, Thelma Greer and her husband, Clarence, of Taylor Valley, Virginia, Nancy Lowe and her husband, Ronnie, of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, and Frances Dowell and her husband, Ross, of Mountain City, Tennessee; one brother, J. R. Mabe and his wife, Alma, of Delaware; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Maurice Widener officiating.  The committal service and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia.  Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.   The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 P. M.
