Shumate Moffett, age 74, of Troutdale, Virginia passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. She was a daughter of the late McKinley and Sarah Riddle Shumate. She was a native of Grayson County, Virginia, and had lived in Spring City, Pennsylvania for thirty years prior to moving to Troutdale, Virginia in 1990. She attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Konnarock, Virginia. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by four sons, Loren M. Shumate and his wife, Adiniah, of Troutdale, Virginia, Lonnie C. Shumate and his wife, Doris, of Chilhowie, Virginia, Gregory V. Francis and his wife, Sue, and Michael A. Francis and his wife, Annette, all of Spring City, Pennsylvania; one brother, J. L. Shumate and his wife, Shirley, of Shady Valley, Tennessee; four sisters, Ruby Waddell and Lillian Hayes, both of Troutdale, Virginia, Ruth Epright, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and Fontella Richardson, of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia; nine grandchildren; two great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 27, 2006, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Chapman officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Laurel Cemetery, Troutdale, Virginia. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Epright, Lewis Huffman, Kenneth Huffman, John Shumate, and Marlin Richardson. The family will receive friends from 7-9 P.M.
