View this Videotribute Douglas L. Parks, age 51, of Damascus, Virginia went to his home in heaven on Thursday, March 9, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Myrtle Parks, two brothers, Roger and Clarence Parks and one sister, Eulala Baumgardner. Mr. Parks was owner and operator of Parks Trucking Company. He was a member of the Rooty Branch Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Steve and wife, Zaria Parks of Glade Spring, Virginia and Mike Parks, of Damascus, Virginia; one daughter, Julie and husband, W. J. Clark, of Atkins, Virginia; two step-daughters, Leigh Ann Dooley and Whitney Hogan; two step-sons, Kevin and Tim Hodgson, all of Roanoke, Virginia; six grandchildren, Katie, Melanie, Lane, Casey, Owen, and Kaley; nine step-grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Tanner, Cody, Lauren, Katie, Ricky, Graham, and Raven; seven sisters, Clara Blevins, of Abingdon, Edith Baumgardner, and Elizabeth Sinclair, of Bristol, Tennessee and Retha Wilson, of Bristol, Virginia, Frances Stoots and Barbara Vestal, of Richmond, Virginia and Eileen Lane, of Damascus, Virginia; two brothers, Delmar Parks, of Abingdon and Ronnie Parks, of Beulah, North Dakota; half brother, Charles Baumgardner, of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. The celebration of life service will be conducted at 6:00 P. M. Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Rooty Branch Freewill Baptist Church, Bristol, Tennessee with Pastor Robert Prater, Rev. Jack Sprinkle and Rev. Bill Morefield officiating. The committal service and interment will be 3:00 P. M. Sunday at Greenwood Cemetery, Alvarado, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Butch Vestal, Mike Smythe, Tim Montgomery, Jimmy Rayburn, Hank Sinclair, and Donald Snyder. Honorary pallbearers will be Hank Wilson, Sammy Surber, Jack Billings, Jr., Wayne Snyder, Jack Billings, Sr. and all of his trucking friends. The family requests memorial contributions may be sent to Rooty Branch Freewill Baptist Church, c/o Tammy Baumgardner, 273 Denton Valley Road, Bristol, TN 37620. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Saturday, March 11, 2006 prior to the funeral service at the church. The family would like to thank his doctors, nurses, friends, family, and everyone that helped in any way for all the support, love, donations and prayers.
