Charlotte Vogel

Charlotte P. Vogel, age 77, of Troutdale, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia. She was a daughter of the late Con and Ida Price of Troutdale, Virginia and was a native of Grayson County, Virginia. She had lived most of her life in Chester County, Lancaster County, and Bowmansville, Pennsylvania. She retired in 1980 from Pepperidge Farms in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. She was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Konnarock, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Leo G. Vogel, and two sisters, Orpha Shumate and Mildred Kilby. She is survived by one daughter, Jean Hostetler of Troutdale, Virginia; two step-sons, Greg Vogel of Cape Coral, Florida, and Monty Vogel of Sebago Lake, Maine; one sister, Joyce Tripplett of Ronda, North Carolina; one brother, Jim Price of Cookeville, Tennessee; five granddaughters, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Konnarock, Virginia with Rev. Candis O’Meara officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions could be sent to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Attn. Tribute Gifts, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780. The family will receive friends from 3-4 P.M. Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church prior to the service. Charlotte was just down right top drawer, Southern Lady full of common sense and drenched with class. I can never thank her enough for the support she provided to my Mom. Having the same name, I loved the sound of her draw and whenever Mom would mention that she asked for me - I was so complimented and couldn't control a big smile. Jeanie, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope Charlotte will visit with my beloved sister, Beverly and the two can smile from above watching and knowing all.

Charlotte,
I hadn't seen you in several years since that trip east in February a few years back. I guess I thought you would feel better and come up to Maine again, or I would get out your way again and see you. In my mind, you were too tough to be that sick. There are so many things about you that I have missed and now will always miss.

You always knew the right thing to say. You knew how to give genuine comfort. You could laugh at an off-color joke, but you always had so much class. How did you do that? We weren't your blood, but you never made us feel otherwise. You spoiled us with your love. You were so darn much fun! - and you made the only cole slaw I ever liked.

You were truly one in a million, and anyone who knew you was lucky to have done so. Thank you for everything you have given me over the years. Few can make others feel cared for like you did. I hope you know that I loved you, too.

My deepest sympathy to the Vogel Family, on the passing of Charlotte. I worked with Charlotte at Pepperidge Farm in Downingtown. She was a wonderful lady who was firm, on her job, yet had a heart of gold. She used to visit us in Denver, Pa., at the employee store, and everyone would look forward to her visits, with the employees, who once worked with her in Downingtown. She will sadly missed.

Charlotte, I have missed you for so long now. We used to spend every summer together in Maine on the island and you made it so special from your stories to the biscuits and gravy (thanks for passing on that recipe, I think of you every time I have them). You were so great with my sister and I, and I loved to see you and Papa together. I will never forget you, and now when I have a gin and tonic "with" Papa in the summer, I will have a burbon with you - even though I don't thing I like burbon very much. I love you!

Charlotte was a neighbor of ours. She lived next door when we built our new House here in Bomansville Pa. She was a very good neighbor. We had much in common having been raised somewhat the same way her in Va and me in Wv. I found her to be a person of integerty . In our talks we shared the days when we grew up working on the farm and the different vegatables that we raised there and the food we ate. I never did get to eat any of her cornbread and pinto beans that we talked about. I know they would have been the very best!

I know she has gone on to a far better place that has been prepared for her. I look forward to seeing her once again some day and we can talk more about the good old days. Rest in peace Charlotte

i will miss nana very much. and so will my two boys. she would help any body that needed the help. nana is up in heaven with pop-pop and king the dog. she will be missed by alot of people. i will always remember my summers in maine as a child. she was the boss of the show. dani

Jean, It has been many years since I have seen you or your mother but I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you both at this time. I remember when Charlotte began her supervisor job in Biscuit and how everyone was intimidated of her because they heard how strict she was in the Frozen Food dept! It didn't take long for all of us to realize how fair and helpful she was in regards to our jobs and as a person. My last memory of your mom was probably at the thrift store in the Denver plant...she was stocking up for a trip to Maine. My sincere sympathies are with you today. As always, Barb

I really never thought this day would come. I always figured that Nana would be here, she was to stubborn to not be! I am who I am today greatly because of her. She was a strong willed lady. I went to pick up the phone today to share something that had happened to me and realized I couldn't, that she wasn't here anymore. But then thought she already knows because she is right here with me and always will be! I also figure she had something to do with it. I will forever have the memories of our wonderful times together when I was younger in Maine. I never got tired of all her wonderful stories and wisdom. I will miss her more than words can describe. I am very lucky to have had her as my grandmother.
