Charles Pappy Widener

(Must have Broadband Connection to view Video Tribute) Charles Alfred Pappy Widener, Sr., age 69, of Damascus, Virginia, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee. He was a life long resident of Washington County, Virginia. He was a son of the late Martin Lee Widener and Carrie Naomi Isabell Rouse Widener. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Widener, two sons, Bobby Charles Widener and Johnny Alfred Widener, and one brother, Ralph Widener. He was a farmer for twenty-seven years, retired from Sterling Casket Company after 20 years and was a lifetime member of Iron Mountain Riding Club. He is survived by three daughters, Betty Marie Heath, of Glade Spring, VA, Rosella Little, of Meadowview, VA, and Jackie Josephine Schuler, of Chilhowie, VA; six sons, William C. J. Widener, of Glade Spring, VA, Allen Lee Widener, of Damascus, VA, Robert Ervin Widener, of Verona, VA, Donald Ellis Widener, of Damascus, VA, Author Martin Widener, of Chilhowie, VA, and Charles Alfred Widener, Jr., of Damascus, VA; three sisters, Maggie Thomas, and Margie Stanley, both of Glade Spring, VA and Helen Compton, of Baltimore, MD; three brothers, Jim Widener and Junior Widener, both of Glade Spring, VA and Marvin Widener, of High Point, NC; three special grandchildren, Joy Trent, Suzi Trent and Jason Widener; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 8, 2007, at the graveside at Rush Creek Cemetery in Glade Spring, Virginia, with Pastor J. L. DeBord and Pastor Tim Norris officiating. Pallbearers will be Jason Widener, Brandon Little, Adam Widener, D. R. Schuler, Robbie Widener, and Emily Schuler. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P. M. Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Garrett Funeral Home.
