Charles P. "Charlie" Magnuson, 84, of Damascus, VA passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, VA. He was a native of Washington County, VA born on November 10, 1934, a son of the late Laverne and Agnes Magnuson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Magnuson. He grew up in Konnarock, VA and had lived in Manassas, VA for 18 years prior to moving back to Damascus, VA in 1972. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a carpenter most all of his life until his retirement. Charlie loved fishing, camping, spending time with his family and his puppies. He was baptised in the Methodist faith. Charlie was a wonderful husband, father, and papa and always put his family first. One of his proudest accomplishments was putting his wife and daughters through college on an 8th grade education. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean Magnuson; two daughters, Susan Flaglor and her husband, Tom, of Mosheim, TN and Sara Magnuson and her husband, Phil Neeley, of Glade Spring, VA; three grandchildren, Kinner Flaglor, Charly Kate Flaglor, and Masen Flaglor; his puppy, Tucker; special family members, Don and Peggy Williams and Bob and Karen Anderson; a special friend and neighbor, Joey "Bear Man" Arden; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Thursday, September 12, 2019, at the graveside at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, VA, with Pastor Gary Ritchie officiating. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:45 pm Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Washington County, VA Humane Society.
