Bertha Gilbert

Bertha Eula Gilbert, age 84, of Damascus, Virginia, passed away Monday, March 15, 2010 at Johnson County Community Hospital in Mountain City, Tennessee. She was a native of Damascus, Virginia and was the youngest child born to the late G. C. and Emma Dunn Gilbert. She had lived with her sister, Ruby Williams, in Damascus, Virginia for many years prior to moving to Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center in 1998. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Damascus, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, William, Walter, John, and Newton; and four sisters, Russie, Virgie, Dora, and Alice. She is survived by one sister, Ruby Gilbert Williams of Mountain City, Tennessee; one niece, Joan Williams of Mountain City, Tennessee; two nephews, David C. Williams and his wife, Kathy, of Mountain City, Tennessee, and Tim Williams and his wife, Joni, of Damascus, Virginia; and several cousins. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Guynn and Pastor Ricky Campbell officiating. Musical selections will be under the direction of Pastor David Griffin. The committal service and interment will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at State Line Cemetery in Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons, Sunday school class No. 6, and members of First Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted with love and gratitude or those who wish may send memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 993, Damascus, VA 24236. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday prior to the funeral service at Garrett Funeral Home.
