Barbara Wilson Bishop

March 27, 1940 - February 28, 2015

Barbara Wilson Bishop, age 74, of Damascus, Virginia, left this life to prepare a place in Heaven for her loved ones on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. She was a life long resident of Washington County, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Jack Wilson and Ray Tackett. She was a graduate of Johnston Memorial Hospital Nursing School and was a Registered Nurse working at Johnston Memorial Hospital for 35 years. Barbara has been an avid supporter of Holston High School Athletics for many years. She was a long time member of Damascus United Methodist Church where she served as chairperson of the Missions Committee for many years and was also a member of the church choir. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Buddy Wilson; one sister, Ellen Garrett; and two brothers-in-law, Stanley Barr and William Garrett. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, James A. “Jim” Bishop; three sons, Andy Bishop and his wife, Judy, of Allison Park, Pennsylvania, Mike Bishop and his wife, Karrie, and Emory Bishop all of Damascus, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Erin Bishop, Kristen Bishop, Amanda Bishop, Ashton Bishop, Brady Bishop, Emma Bishop, Hannah DeArmond, and Dillon DeArmond; two sisters, Janet Barr of Chilhowie, Virginia and Reva Spry and her husband, Barry, of Abingdon, Virginia; two brothers, Jack Wilson and his wife, Charlotte, Bristol, Virginia and Danny Wilson of Abingdon, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:45 P.M. Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Riverview Chapel with Pastor Jim Denton and Pastor Jeanne Denton officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Dillon DeArmond, Brady Bishop, Barry Spry, Steve Frost, Adam Johnson, and Barry Salewsky. Honorary pallbearers will be David Cline, Jim Forrester, John Forrester, Bob Buchanan, Nick Sturgill, P.G. Widener, and Mike Lowe.
