Janet Wilson Barr

Janet Wilson Barr, 74, of Abingdon, VA passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Virginia. She was born in Tazewell County, VA, had lived in Lodi, VA during her younger years. She later lived in the Mill Creek Community in Chilhowie, VA from 1971 until 2015 when she moved to Abingdon, VA. She was a daughter of the late Jack Wilson and Rae Tackett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Barr, Sr.; two sisters, Barbara Bishop and Ellen Garrett; and one brother, John "Buddy" Wilson. She was retired from the VA Department of Forestry and was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, Chilhowie, VA. Janet is survived by one daughter, Trish Barr Halley and her husband, Dave, of Holly Springs, NC; two sons, Reid Barr and his wife, Sandra, of Fries, VA, and Stephen Barr and his wife, Angie, of Wilmington, NC; ten grandchildren, Katlyn Halley, Rachael Halley, Derrick Barr, Shawn Barr, Samantha Kerley, Tanner Arnold, Kiley Barr, Harris Barr, Avery Barr, and Bailey Barr; four brothers, Jack Wilson, Danny Wilson, Charles Robinson, and Ed Robinson; two sisters, Reva Spry and Sonia Petersek; several nieces and nephews; and her canine companion, Babe. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Chilhowie, VA. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm Saturday at Lebanon United Methodist Church with Pastor Luther Roberts officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Derrick Barr, Shawn Barr, Tanner Arnold, Tony McVey, Patrick Maiden, and Nick Maiden. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the No Child Left Unfed Program, c/o Wallace Middle School, 13077 Wallace Pike, Bristol, VA 24202.
