Harold G. Dean Sr.

Harold G. Dean, Sr., 79, of Damascus, VA passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Kingsport, TN and was a son of the late Grady Denver Dean and Ermal Burris Dean. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Natalie Jo Casey; one son, Harold Glen Dean, Jr.; one sister, Coleen Shriver; and two brothers, Paul Dean and Frankie Dean. He had lived in Washington, D.C. for 35 years before moving to Damascus, VA in 1999. He retired from a government printing office in Washington, D.C. He was a big Washington Redskins football fan. Harold joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Maryland in 1967 and was a member of the Abingdon ward. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Rutledge Dean; one daughter, Teresa Ann Dean of Damascus, VA; one son, James Curtis Dean and his wife, Donna, of Manassas, VA; three sisters, Nelda Jessee and Patsy Riner both of Kingsport, TN, and Beotta Cudebec of Oceola, FL; six grandchildren, Joshua, Haven, Zachary, Caleb, Stephanie, and Cody; five great grandchildren, Bailey, Tanner, Silas, Cora, and Adrienne; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:45 PM Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 PM Thursday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Bishop Andy Nowicki officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11:00 AM Friday, June 30, 2017 at Mock Cemetery, Damascus, VA.
