Ella Mae was a wonderful person. She welcomed me with open arms into the family.
She has taught me so much about the southern ways. Like you have to have biscuits and gravy for breakfast. It was always better at her house where she would cook on her wooden stove instead of the electric one. She made meals with the vegetables out of her garden. And when you left she would give us a jar of her apple butter which she had made. She will be missed. I love you Mom.

Godspeed dear sweet Ella Mae....My deepest sympathies to all of the family for the loss of your matriarch. I have so many fond memories from my childhood spending time on the family farm. Boy did I love making the train ride "down home" to Konnarock with Jean...and the country breakfasts... and chasing around on the mountain after the cows and other creatures with Bobby and Ricky...and visiting beautiful Whitetop and Mount Rogers.

Ella Mae will forever be in my memories and my heart....

My thoughts and prayers go out to Ella Mae, one of the best women I've ever know. A hard worker, worked in logging camps as a cook when a young woman, at age 69 or 70 she dug a water line to the trailer all the way from the sistern, along that hard packed dirt road!! She taught me and my sister Denise a LOT on how to cook and do laundry with a wringer washer. :) My oh my what a great woman!! May the Lord welcome her into His Kingdom for the kindesses she did and for her devout faith.

Peace be with you all,
~Sheila Bennett Darisse
